After Dinner Speaking

Ben Portrait

Do you know the origin of such phrases as ‘a square meal’ or ‘tying the knot’ or even ‘three sheets to the wind’? Have you ever wondered why anyone would go to the trouble of producing a knot board?

Ben covers this and other fascinating history in his talks. And having become involved in dressing the Dutch barge that had a leading role as Ma Costa’s Barge in the forthcoming Nicole Kidman film, The Golden Compass, Ben has some more recent experiences to share too.

Frequently Ben gets sidetracked and we can end up with tales of the unexpected. When BBC Radio Gloucester came to interview him for a brief slot last year, they ended up with so much fascinating material they ran it daily for a week.

Similarly, when Ben was asked to speak to a group of visually impaired people one evening, they so enjoyed his talk and demonstration, he was invited back to teach a further half dozen times.

Ben’s not proud - he’ll talk to anyone! Yacht clubs, Women’s Institutes, Inland Waterways Association members and rotary clubs - and not just after dinner. He arrives in the authentic dress of a 1930s bargee, complete with bowler hat, and guarantees a talk full of interesting information, plenty of fascinating history, and some laughter too.

There are still some dates available in 2007-2008 so to find out if Ben is available or make a booking, contact Ben on info@knotkrazy.co.uk or call 07767 880951
